BCAAA 5.4

BCAAA (Blue Coat Authentication and Authorization Agent) by Blue Coat Systems, Inc. is a Windows-based service that bridges Blue Coat ProxySG appliances with enterprise directory services to provide user authentication and group-based authorization. Installed on a domain-joined Windows server, it handles authentication requests from ProxySG using Integrated Windows Authentication (NTLM/Kerberos), performs directory lookups (such as against Microsoft Active Directory), and returns validated user identities and group memberships for policy enforcement.

By offloading domain communication from the proxy to the agent—often referred to as IWA BCAAA mode—BCAAA enables seamless single sign-on, granular identity-aware web access controls, and accurate user-based reporting, without requiring the proxy to join the domain. This design reduces authentication prompts, simplifies deployment in distributed environments, and improves security and manageability of identity-driven web policies.
